HEOP Assistant Director

Medaille College is accepting applications for the position of H.E.O.P. Assistant Director. Under the supervision of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program Director, the HEOP Assistant Director supports the development, coordination, and implementation of academic-based supports to historically disadvantaged students who have diverse talents, strengths, experiences, and needs. The Assistant Director will fully represent the program in the absence of the Director, and will utilize various resources to provide adequate tools to help students reach their full academic potential. In addition, the Assistant Director will provide direct support to students as they adjust to the college experience, contributing to Medaille College retention and degree completion goals. The Assistant Director will also collaborate with various campus resources available to all Medaille College students.

Responsibilities include assisting the Director in recruiting first-year students and serving on the HEOP Admission Committee. Organize, implement, and oversee the four-week residential Summer Academy for entering first-year students. Counsel first- and second-year students on a weekly basis throughout the academic year, closely monitoring their academic progress. Works closely with the Director of the Academic Skills Center to assess support needs and deliver academic coaching services. Work closely with faculty and staff with respect to HEOP students’ academic progress. Assist the Director in representing the program to enhance its visibility at institution’s general student recruiting and admission events on campus. Assist the director in gathering assessment data and preparing required reports for both the New York State Education Department and Medaille College.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs administration, counseling, social work, or related degree. Must have experience in higher education with creation and facilitation of student-oriented workshops. Must be able to work evenings and weekends during the four-week summer program, as well as the ability to travel overnight.
