Director of Academic Success and Persistence

Medaille College is accepting applications for a leader of a new department that has been created in order to focus on student academic success in both the tradition and non-traditional programs. This position will articulate a vision and create clear pathways for student success. The focus will be on increasing faculty engagement with students in advising, developing an academic support program that builds on best practices in student academic development, key curricular components of the general education program, and a holistic and collaborative approach to persistence across the campus.

The Director for Academic Success and Persistence is a professional staff member responsible for the development and oversight of campus wide plans, strategies, and implementation of programs related to student success. In this role, the Director will oversee the Advising office, and the Academic Support Center, which includes curricular elements of the general education program. The Director convenes and manages the cross-cutting Retention Council. The Director will supervise personnel and programs of the offices under its purview and will work with members of the Academic Council, Program Directors and faculty to promote student success among all populations. In addition the Director collaborates with the directors over grant-funded student support programs. The successful candidate will be building this effort in collaboration with admissions and financial aid at the beginning of a student’s time with Medaille College, faculty and academic programs during their time as a student, and career services in anticipation of their post-Medaille career.


  • Terminal degree in an education-related field preferred; master’s degree required.
  • Five years administrative experience with evidence of a goal oriented management style.
  • An ability to lead and build collaborative teams.
  • Passion and experience in working with first generation students and those who come to college with a broad range of levels of preparation and from diverse backgrounds. A strong collegial style.
