Part-Time Counselor - Student Counseling Center
Medaille College is accepting applications for a Part-Time Counselor in the Student Counseling Center. This is a 10 Month Position (August 15th-June 15th), under the supervision of the Director of The Student Counseling Center. The Counselor works collaboratively with the Student Counseling Center staff, Health Center, Vice President of Student Development, Accessibilities Services, Academic Support departments and other service professionals on campus providing assistance to students with specific challenges in order to aid in a successful transition to the college environment and facilitate retention. This 20 hour part time position will include late afternoon, evening and weekend hours.
The Counselor position includes provision of mental health counseling to a case load of approximately 20-25 clients, as well as psycho-educational outreach and programming. This may include coordination of outreach and training requests for behavioral interventions and psycho-education for RAs, student leaders and other student groups. Requests may include developing educational workshops on various relevant topics such as: Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Stress Management. Will provide service to the Division of Student Affairs committees as requested by Director; consult with faculty, staff, students and students’ families as needed.
The minimum educational qualifications include a Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field and a valid license (i.e. LCSW or LMHC) in the State of New York. The minimum experience qualifications should be three years post-master’s degree experience with demonstrated skills in individual therapy, consultation, outreach, and crisis intervention. The Counselor will have the desire and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues (such as Health Services, Accessibilities Services, Student Development, and other units within the College community) in an interdisciplinary setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience in crisis evaluation and safety planning is a must. The successful candidate for this position will be an advocate for student success, possess a demonstrated ability to multi-task, and be able to effectively manage a diverse caseload in a trauma informed setting.
