Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs for Online Learning and Continuing Education

Medaille College seeks an Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs for Online Learning and Continuing Education to lead and expand fully-online degree programs for post-traditional learners (undergraduate and graduate) as a strategic dimension of Medaille College’s growth, and as a critical component of the college’s future identity and revenue. This position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

  • Improve all aspects of the online student lifecycle to enhance program efficiency and effectiveness:

  • Lead in the development of a greater number of fully-online programs, and in the diversity of program offerings and concentrations within programs
  • Strategically expand the college’s brand, marketing reach, and programmatic impact both geographically and through new constituencies in existing locations


  • Supervise online staff as assigned
  • Coordinate all aspects of the online lifecycle for a seamless and efficient student experience:
    • Marketing
    • Enrollment
    • Academics
    • Technology
    • Assessment
    • Regulatory affairs
  • Facilitate ongoing quality assessment and improvement activities throughout the administrative lifecycle
  • Develop effective processes for academic program review and development
  • Propose and facilitate implementation of new organizational models for online delivery
    • Administrative services, processes, and policies
    • Academic programs, procedures and policies
    • Strategic partnering (specific services through comprehensive collaborations)

Desired Characteristics

  • Entrepreneurial leader with track record of successful online expansion
  • History of successful collaboration with students, faculty, staff from multiple divisions, and community partners
  • Advocate for fully-online degree programs–both within the institution and among key constituencies and communities; demonstrated ability to develop and support active, engaged, online learning communities
  • Creative manager capable of handling multiple tasks within a resource constrained environment
  • Experience with small, not-for-profit colleges, with an appreciation for the distinctive opportunities and constraints inherent in the organizational context
  • Experience in working with online technology support partners
  • Knowledge of curriculum and NY State Education policies and procedures SARA, as well as familiarity with national standards for quality online teaching
  • Experience in adult education (theory and andragogy) as it relates to online and blended learning modalities, innovation in continuing education practices and policies
  • Familiarity and facility in the use of data to drive decisions and program improvement
  • Ability to balance realistic expectations with strategic drive for expansion and improvement
